Dear LM_NETters:
Yesterday the librarian at our elementary school called to tell me that the
district had money left from Reading First. They gave her $xx,xxx to spend
on books by the 18th.
This is my 21st year as a librarian for the secondary school. I have never
had a whole budget for that much.
I have read that the reading program is to be extended to the older students
soon. $100mil has been allocated for that program. Divided by 50 states.
Divided by the number of districts in your state. We have 573 high schools
in Missouri.
How can that little provide much help to struggling secondary students?
