Does your school already have a "blanket license" with ASCAP and BMI? Maybe the school district handles this. If so, you may be covered. If not, one would turn to fair use, and after a careful examination of the four factors, make that determination. Date: Thu, 10 Feb 2005 10:14:19 -0500 From: Nancy Kershner <nkershner@SBC.EDU> Subject: GEN: copyright question The principal and one of our special ed. teachers are interested in playing educational songs (from Schoolhouse Rock and others) over the school intercom after the morning announcements. They are interested in playing songs pertaining to our state standards and having a "song of the week". Would this be within fair use guidelines? If not, do we contact the recording company for permission or BMI or ASCAP or whom?
