I enjoyed the movie but think the books are, of course, better. Jim Carey did a marvelous job as Olaf. That being said, the movie added to the plot and not having read all the books I was confused by the twists. Vis a vis the movie, it seems the "relatives" are really a band of detectives (amateur? professional?) keeping tabs on various arson cases. They each have a spyglass. This has not been the case in the first three books where the only spyglass mentioned is in the sailboat on Lake Lachrymose. At the end of the third book Count Olaf mentions arson when Mr. Poe is listing the many crimes the police may be interested in talking to Olaf about, but this is the only confirmed clue that Olaf may be behind the Baudelaire fire. It piqued my curiousity and I plan to read them all. The movie seems ripe for a sequel.
