[LM_NET] Looking for middle school mysteries with strong male characters

Dear Lm_NET'rs,

I have just started an internship in a magnet middle
school, and I find that many students, particularly
African-American and Hispanic origin males are looking
for books with strong African-American and/or Hispanic
origin characters, and particularly mysteries.

Can you recommend any mystery series or individual
books/authors that might fit this mold. For that
matter, any mystery authors/series appropriate for
middle school students would be greatly appreciated!
