Good Morning and Happy New Year: I'm interested in folks' experience with young people as volunteers/trainees in your school libraries. (1) How were the students recruited? (2) How did they get their training? How much training? (3) Is there a formal curriculum, class, etc? (3) Were the students offered anything besides units/credit toward graduation? (I heard in one sch. the kids get to go to the teacher's fridge any period for cold Arrowhead water.) (4) How much staff was involved in their training or their daily work? (5) What tasks do you have the students do? (6) Do you feel it is/was worthwhile, based on the "costs" you/the school incurred? (7) Do you currently have a library program working? (8) How many of these young people were hired by local libraries after they graduated? Do you have great stories that their training with you led to their job or choice to go on for more library education? Thanks so much for your responses.
