I am in a K-8 school. Although the paper work has not been turned in yet,
they have five days, two teachers are questioning Mem Fox's" Guess what?"
Thankfully a Hornbook, Kirkus starred review , and the problem is NOT about
the witch in the book or a book on witches--- but about a picture of this
old grisly woman in a sink (used as her bathtub--can see arms, legs and
ribs) and on the last page she wears a button for (Sex Pistols)--which is
difficult to read. Boy, some people should take a real look at what
inappropriate pictures are and get a life, ANYway, has anyone EVER has this
book questioned. It is a wonderful Halloween-prediction book, very few
words? Is She tall? Guess? and wonderful surreal--pictures and lifestyle,
absolutely fascinating to the young ones. Much of the detail can only be
seen with a magnifying glass and the Sex Pistols button is very hard to
read. Of course, the young ones think sex is a dirty word, always makes me
Hoot! when they tell me that. I have sent a copy of the policy to each
teacher with the reconsideration form as well as the principal, who didn't
seem to know what to do. I just calmly said, have them fill out the form.
My first issue in six years, perhaps I need to be thankful for that. This
sure gets my panties in a twist!!!!!!! ha--maybe I shouldn't say that--tee
hee. cb

Literature gives us a memory of lives we did not lead.
