Thanks to all who responded with suggestions for animal encyclopedias! Here are the responses: - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - There is a new edition of the International Wildlife Encyclopedia - 2002? (I'm at home.) You will love it! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Smithsonian has a wonderful compendium - ANIMAL - but it is mostly for middle to high school. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - We have the newest series from Grolier--World of Animals. There are a total of four sets in the series, each set has 10 volumes. Sets are Mammals, Birds, Insects/Invertebrates, and the one one yet published is Reptiles (I think). - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I just bought the new World Books Science and Nature Guides.
