Muskegon Public Schools has a HS Media Specialist position available. Below is the posting. #003 BULLETIN - PLEASE POST INTERNAL/EXTERNAL TO: All Professional Staff and Placement Agencies & Universities FROM: Betty Savage, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources DATE: July 20, 2005 RE: High School Librarian/Media Specialist Muskegon Public Schools is in need of a Librarian/Media Specialist at Muskegon High School for a progressive high school library/learning center with state-of-the-art technology and a recently enhanced collection. The successful candidate must have the ability to facilitate student and staff needs for increasingly sophisticated research projects and to act as a literacy leader/advocate. This is a full-time position, approximately 190 days per year. Starting salary is $35,131 with additional compensation for advanced degrees and an excellent benefit package. Job Functions The primary responsibility is to maintain strong collections appropriate to student learning needs and curriculum standards. Collaborate with school staff on projects involving library resources, develop and implement effective literacy programming. Maintain physically appealing and engaging library environment. Maintain the role of literacy advocate and leader within the school and district, implement library policies and procedures within the context of an on-line cataloging and checkout system. Facilitate continued growth in the use of technological tools for substantive student research. Qualification 1. Demonstrated ability to engage students in literacy development activities in a diverse secondary school setting. 2. Current technical knowledge of library processes. 3. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with individual teachers, teaching teams, departments, and school administration, and other librarians. Educational Requirements 1. Bachelor’s degree plus 30 graduate hours in Library Science or a Master’s degree in Library Science. 2. Michigan Teaching Certificate appropriate to high school, with Library/Media endorsement (ND) or able to transfer out-of-state certification.
