I remember a couple things... at the age of 13 my
mother and I stayed up to watch the men walk on the
moon. It was very surreal

mother and I stayed up to watch the men walk on the
moon. It was very surreal. It was kind of hard for me
to fathom the distance and what was going on, hearing
Neil Armstrong talk. But most of all (in hindsight)
was my mom knew it as really big and should be
recorded, so with Polaroid in hand, she kept snapping
pictures of the TV. Then we went outside and looked at
the moon, just trying to grasp what was going on. The
moon that seemed close in our living room was so far
away on our front lawn.

Second was: going to school the next fall and seeing
all the astronomy books IN COLOR after watching the
B&W TV, I some how thought the moon had no color...
HA!
