does the research and who analyzes it --"

That would be POOR research (incomplete, biased, not knowledgeable,
non-critical, not evaluated, etc) and or FAULTY analysis (biased,
misguided, ignoring data, misinterpreted, unreviewed, etc) .

For interesting, on on-topic examples, take a look at the discussion of
children's reading and family involvement or children's carseats in
Levitt and Dubner's _Freakonomics_ and the discussions and reviews. (ex:
