Okay, I confess my addiction to pop culture, particularly the TV show Monk. I can't help it and I can't talk about it with anyone other than OCD people. Knowing the stereotypes that librarians have about being OCD, I thought there might be some others out there in the same boat. I particularly love it when he says "Unless I'm wrong, but I'm not." There are so many Monk-isms that parallel my life. I love the TV commercial where he goes in to the grocery store and ends up with a cart full of expired goods. My children watch me carefully in the grocery and video stores so I won't embarass them. If I stand too long in one spot, I feel the need to rearrange products in correct order. I have even threatened them that I'd get a second job in the video store so I could properly alphabetize the entire store. When my children were very young, I always watched tv with them so I could relate library lessons and information skills to the familiar culture of my students. Now that I have 4 teenagers, I watch techTV, dramas, movies, anime, biographies and documentaries. I am out-of-touch with the tv shows that are most popular with my youngest group. Monk is my grown-up humor. What TV shows do your youngest students identify with? Since my boys go to school next week but I don't for 10 days, I can do a crash course in elementary pop culture. TIA.
