I think you can create wonderful atmospheres (and I encourage that) but I strongly believe it revolves around the librarian.... You need to go out and seek those who will use you...you need to strongly be there for them...to smile...the be gracious... to be a host.... The atmosphere will follow.. it can't be a mess, of course or look as if a tornado passed through. I have seen wonderful library programs conducted in a small crowded one room basement library that sat 40 students....and I have seen empty beautiful atrium libraries that would better serve as a lounge somewhere.
