I think Doug Johnson (and some others) mentioned this about 6 months ago. I
wouldn't consider it a "fake documentary" as much as it is thought-provoking
idea of where we are going in regard to user-guided technology and media.

The idea that the consumer / user guides information is scary to me. (Have
you SEEN some of the users out there posting information as valid research?
<grin>) Products like Wiki-pedia (which allows anyone to add and delete
information to a website that is used as a valid source of research by many
uniformed, information-illiterate individuals) is one example of how things
can be changed to fit the needs of the user. (Yes, I know that many of you
use Wiki-pedia....but I have had teachers who have encouraged their students
to use Wiki as the ONLY source for research, all the while we had online
products and print materials on the subjects that weren't used! My problem
is that most students do not have the skills necessary to investigate all
information that they find, in order to find what might be "the
truth"--instead, they take what is out there as the truth and use it as
valid research material ---and I won't go into the theory that information
is changed to fit the needs of society as reported through Diane Ravitch's
book "The Language Police.")

This reminds me of "Animal Farm" and how the pigs kept changing the rules on
the side of the barn....each time the animals checked to see what the rules
were, something had been crossed out or added.....

"All animals are equal" became "All animals are equal, but some animals are
more equal than others." Thus making the pigs the animals that were "more
equal" than the other animals....they had more power and kept the masses
(the other animals), in essence, illiterate and uneducated.

"all information is important...but some information is more important than
other?"

I think as librarians (who strive for organization, guidelines, authority,
validity, etc.), this is a serious issue in our future, as we try to find
that piece of information that reflects what is TRUE and correct....not what
is created by the most powerful or what is listed as most important through
technology access by the masses.

Let's keep aware of this progress to see where it goes....I'm already seeing
many of the later things in the video happening (and it's scary).
