Several people requested a hit, so here are all the mission statements I received. Thanks to everyone who shared - I haven't finished mine yet, but I have some good ideas, thanks to you! Anita "The mission of the school library media program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information." The mission of the Norwalk High School Library Media Center is to support students and staff as effective users of ideas and information by: a.. Providing intellectual and physical access to information. b.. Leading, instructing, and collaborating in the use of instructional and informational technology. c.. Gathering resources, and planning activities that reflect the diversity of our student body and community. d.. Promoting initiatives in reading and information retrieval. The library media center is integrated into the educational program at Franklin, strengthening the teaching/learning process so that students can develop Information Literacy skills. It also supports reading for personal enjoyment by providing a wide variety of fiction and nonfiction books to appeal to all tastes and reading abilities. The mission of the Hopkins High School Instructional Media Center is to work collaboratively with staff and students to create discriminating life long learners who use ideas and information to meet intellectual, curriculum and recreational needs The mission of the school library program is to ensure that all students, teachers, and staff are effective users of ideas and information enabling them to be literate, life-long learners. The mission of the library media technology program is to encourage students and adults to become independent learners by providing: facilities that function as information centers of the school; resources, activities, and instruction in the use of information technology; and an environment which encourages reading for pleasure. Building a Community of Readers The East Side Middle School Library serves a population of over 800 sixth, seventh and eighth grade students and approximately 70 faculty and staff members. The mission of the library/media center program is a.. to assist our students and staff in becoming active and effective users of information and ideas, b.. to nurture a love for learning and reading, and c.. to provide the resources needed to support the school's academic goals and standards. The Mission of the Klingenstein Library at Rye Country Day School is to support the mission of the school: to foster individual development in an invigorating and supportive environment that promotes the emotional, social, physical, and intellectual growth of each student. The library staff takes an active role in introducing and promoting new books and other materials that contribute to the PK-12 curriculum. Moreover, the library provides an appropriate atmosphere where thinking and inquiry skills are emphasized and where students can become information-literate and independent learners who contribute positively to the school community. The mission of the LJBC Library is to ensure that students develop critical thinking and problem solving skills through the process of accessing evaluating and applying information. The Library seeks to encourage the growth of ideas the experience of literature and the use of technology within a caring Christian environment. Library Aims To provide a wide range of resources in varying formats to meet the needs of the curriculum To offer students a range of learning opportunities which provide strategies to access, evaluate and use information To assist teachers with the support they need to develop information literate students To develop an interest in reading for enjoyment through programs that allow students to experience different forms of literature To provide services and technologies to allow for maximum access to information To provide facilities that are flexible and accommodating of students' needs and emerging technologies. Library Media System Mission Statement The goal of the Library Media System at VSDB is to develop "independent, ethical, lifelong learners who achieve personal satisfaction and who contribute responsibly and productively to .society as a whole." (Information Power: Building Partnerships for Learning by AASL and AECT, ALA 1998) The library system promotes literacy development and the acquisition of information literacy skills through its collection of resources and instructional collaboration with teachers. The library system also provides curricula enrichment and support for all VSDB students in grades preK-12. To this end, VSDB has established and actively maintains three full service libraries which comprise the VSDB Library System. . Deaf Department Library which contains the collection of resources for elementary, middle and high school students and staff . Blind Department Library which houses the collection of print, large print, Braille and audio resources for students and staff . Yates Satellite Library for residential students which contains print and Braille resources for student use after school hours. Philosophy of the Library Media System The primary objectives of the school's library system are to enrich and support the educational program of the school, to meet the interest needs of those it serves, and to encourage a love of literature. It is the function of the library to provide a wide range of material presented in a variety of media formats on all levels of difficulty with a diversity of appeal and the presentation of different points of view that are accessible to the hearing impaired and visually impaired population that we serve. VSDB supports the principles of intellectual freedom inherent in the Constitution of the United States and expressed in the American Association of School Librarians "School Library Bill of Rights" and in the "Students Right to Read" statement of the National Council of Teachers of English [see appendix]. Goals The Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind in Staunton support the following goals of the Library Media System: . To provide students with intellectual access to information by teaching them strategies for locating, accessing, evaluating, synthesizing, and using information in all formats and in all content areas of the curriculum . To provide resources to support academic and lifelong learning through a systematically organized collection of diverse learning materials representing a wide range of disciplines, sources, points of view, difficulty levels, and formats which accommodate various learning styles, interests, and special needs and are accessible by the hearing impaired and visually impaired students we serve . To provide resources and materials representative of religious, ethnic, and cultural groups and their contribution to our American heritage . To collaborate with teachers in providing literacy skills and information skills to students as well as resources to meet instructional needs . To demonstrate and encourage reading as a leisure activity and to foster a love of literature . To provide facilities that are adequate to house the collection in a well organized, accessible manner and to provide an atmosphere that is conducive to learning . To provide access to resources and materials beyond VSDB's Library Media System through a systematic set of procedures and agreements including, but not limited to: electronic networks and databases, interlibrary loan, and cooperative agreements with other agencies . To provide to students and staff training and experience with the variety of communications media and technology used for instructional, learning purposes . To promote and encourage the integration of technology into instruction and the curriculum . To support the concepts of intellectual freedom and equal access which are the foundation of our democratic society The mission of the library media program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information consistent with the school's mission statement. The Lewis and Clark Elementary Instructional Media Center, a vital "learning laboratory" of the elementary school curriculum, supports and encourages intellectual curiosity. The center will also assist in the development of lifetime reading habits and provide modern library resources and services necessary to satisfy the evolving informational and recreational pursuits of the students, faculty, and staff. Education in the tradition of the Christian Brothers and the School Sisters of Notre Dame FAC OMNIA BENE (Do all things well) The Mission of Commonwealth School is to educate young people from diverse backgrounds to become knowledgeable, thoughtful, and creative adults, capable of careful analysis, fruitful cooperation, and deep commitment. To meet this mission, Commonwealth students must be well-informed and able to gather and manage information skillfully. As such, Commonwealth's Library aims to facilitate access to information relevant to the coursework and academic interests of the students, faculty, and staff of the School. Research skills learned in the library will equip students to lead well-informed, thoughtful, productive lives. The Library will consist of a rich variety of print and electronic resources, connections to outside libraries and collections, and a program of information literacy instruction. The Curtin Middle School Library seeks to instill in students and staff a love and appreciation of books and the skills needed to use ideas and information effectively. The Library Media Center supports and enhances the education of all chidren to meet tomorrow's challenges." The media center mission is to positively affect student achievement in the Ligon community through the provision of instruction and resources for literacy, reading appreciation and research in an atmosphere of service and collaboration."
