Dear Ruie
Of course you are not the only one in the world who thinks we should be
teaching our students information problem solving skills - every one of us
does that and just because we make some things easier to access, especially
in the elementary school where most of the respondents so far are from, does
not mean we are neglecting that aspect.

I believe that effective and efficient information literacy skills are built
on an ability and a desire to read, and if we can develop this through
attracting students (especially boys) to the library in the first place, and
then to books through easier, non-discriminatory access, then we are more
likely to have success in other areas.

Since I made my Select-A-Series section, my boys (the majority under 11
years old) have been its main users. Before, they would get a Guinness Book
of Records or a Where's Wally and while away their borrowing time with their
mates and not take anything home. (In my school, each class as a borrowing
time independent of my lessons with them - it's a timetable thing over which
I have little input.)
