I apologize to the rest of you, but I am getting a number of emails asking for clarification of how to pronounce Geisel. Since I merely passed along the info I found, I am not purporting to be the expert here. However, my experience with phonics tells me that if the phonetic spelling meant for it to be a soft "g" it would have used a "j" and if it would have meant it to be pronounced "ee" it would have used "gee" instead of the "gie" in the listing. So, I have heard it and the way I interpret the listing is "Gie zuhl" (hard "g", long "I"), the first syllable is accented and the last does not rhyme with "sell". Hope everyone has a good day...
