[LM_NET] TARGET: 9th Summer Reading Request

Our History Department is looking for a title recommendation for the 9th
grade's summer reading.

The 9th graders begin the year with a look at classical
civilizations--Greece, Rome, China, and (possibly) India.  We would like
them to read something that deals with issues of what a
civilization/society is and how it functions.  It does not have to be
about one of the classical civilizations.  The issues are more important
than the historical period.

Any suggestions?
