Groton, CT( where I live) used this book as their "One Book, One Region"
last year. What a powerful story! They had the author come introduce
it and give free autographed copies to school librarians and other
invited guests. We then went out to promote it. After the high schools
and community read it, Mr. Hosseini returned to a packed house to speak
and answer questions (he was wonderful) and then the library had an
Afghan film series weekly during the summer.
I am awaiting the choice for this year - it will be tough to match last
year!

I just finished the book Kite Runners by Khaled Hosseini. It is the
story of a boy who grows up in Afghanistan, the fall of the monarchy,
the Taliban, and covers his life and family from childhood to about age
40. It was very good so if you are looking for something to read over
spring break you might try this. I listened to the abridged version on
tape, about 6.5 hours.
