There is a picture book called "One Pizza, One Penny" by K.T. Hao
(2003) that was a Junior Library Guild selection. It is a story about a
crocodile and bear trying to sell their food (pizza or cake) and how one
gold coin can change everything. Not really detailed - but definitely
shows how people have to be buying things for people to keep making or
selling things.
