A more positive approach - i find it so distressing on the things I have read about overdue books and fines - yes students need to be responsible -- but I would sure rather have a positive approach -- to this -- We just stopped fines completely - a huge amount of time and energy is being spent on fines when time could be spent with students and in promoting reading -- Do we want lifelong readers who value libraries -- or negative thoughts about the library I encourage everyone to go and talk to teachers, parents, etc about their school library experiences -- you may be surprised Paula "Betty Winslow, BGCA" <bgcalib@WCNET.ORG> wrote: In that case, I think I'd do a report about the cost of replacing lost books and the fact that overdue books are not available to other students, thus reducing the usefulness of the library to the student body, and I'd send a copy of it home to each family. Don't know how much it would help, but it would make me feel better!
