[LM_NET] Starting the next school year off with a bang?

I am just finishing up my library degree, and happily got placed as my
school's library media specialist for next school year.  I have been
working as a computer teacher in my building for the last 7 years.  I
would like some advice on helping the staff see me in my new role, as well
as some suggestions to starting the school year off in some kind of
exciting way.

Currently, teachers bring their students down to the library to complete
projects, and there aren't really many cooperative lessons between our
current librarian and the staff.  I'd like to get the staff and the kids
excited about using the library next year.  Got ideas for special events,
school kickoff ideas, orientation ideas for new teachers?
