This summer I am involved in a reading program that was formerly funded by Title I. We are no longer Title I but the program will still occur. There are three teachers involved: science, English, and a reading specialist. There is also a library component (that's where i come into the picture.) In past years, the former librarian basically just had the library open but there was nothing formal going on. Kids came to the library and read or checked out books or both. Last summer, they hired someone else because of the change of staffing in the school. That person (apparently) did activities with the students. My question is what, if anything, would you suggest I do with this program? I'm thinking of using Peg Milam's InfoQuest or Cohen's Mysteries of Research to get an information literacy component in there. Our theme is "birds" and I don't really think I want to tie all activities to that topic, although I've been shopping for some decorations to make the library suitable for the theme. Thank you for any suggestions you have to offer. If you do anything like this at your school, I'd be interested in hearing what you do! Thanks in advance! Kim Kimberly A. Brosan, Librarian Andrew G.
