There is a problem with the post it notes.  Because only
part of the note has adhesive, it is very easy for this
type of label to fall off.  If you were to use a removable
label that has an adhesive on the entire back of the label,
I think you will find that the labels won't be easily lost
and you may be able to reuse the labels.

The Reserves specialist at our library uses a large,
removable label that Avery manufactures. These labels have
an adhesive that will not harm the book covering (even
those nasty paper ones you get with some hardback
books)when it is removed.  The Avery Removable I. D. Labels
are product number 6464 and the packaging states that you
should us the Avery 5164 software layout. (I think the
layout is the template you chose when using Word's or
WordPerfect's label tool.)  Because these are large labels,
my library used the custom label feature in Word labels to
allow "two" labels to be printed on a single label.
