This seems to be happening more and more at our school- it seems our pool of
subs is very limited. I usually end up finding out the morning of that a sub could
not be found. I don't close the library. When I sub, they must provide the class
with an assignment or the kids use it as a "study hall." I still have to supervise
them, but I can still perform some of my "library duties". So far, this year I
have been a sub for at least 4 different blocks. I am also the person who babysits
the driver's ed kids who are not driving (everyday). When testing is being done, I
am usually the person who gets the "overflow" (kids who are not testing). Most of
the time I am at least told before hand- but not always. I have no Plan time.
Although I am supposedly "closed" for 30 min. each day for lunch, I still have the
driver's ed kids and teachers still send kids or schedule classes. I think we
should get reimbursed for the sub time we provide. Teachers could sub for other
classes during their prep time to help fill the gaps. No answers here, sorry.
