To help with the organization situation, I have created 'Genre Bookmarks'. Each
one has a list of authors that typically write in a specific genre, listed in
alphabetical order. I have only included those that are found in my library. To
display them I used my antique card pockets. I labeled them by genre, glued them
to posterboard, and attached it to the circulation desk. When kids come in and ask
where the 'horror section' is for example, I teach them how to use the bookmarks.
They will not get a list of all the books I have in a specific genre, but they get
a good representative list. I also have genre stickers that I use. These 2 tools
have helped my students find books by genre, as the catalog with a list of 300
mysteries is a bit daunting.
