Thank you so much for all your answers!

My question for you was ³What are the tasks do you assign to your
assistant/techs?²

Although most of the answers I received basically stated that the duties you
assign really depend on the ability and training of your assistant/tech.
Many of you felt comfortable giving your tech free reign in most areas of
the library especially those with good training and years of experience.
Some of you, who are stretched thin covering more than one school, feel
comfortable enough to allow some assistants/tech to order books.

One of the best statements I found came from Henrico County in Virginia:
³Participates fully in providing information services to patrons in the
school's Center for Information Services and provides clerical support as
needed.²

1. Provides requested assistance to all patrons as needed including research
questions, and pulling items for staff and students.
2. Performs general clerical duties (filing, typing, answering telephones,
duplication, database maintenance)
3. Checks in, checks out, straightens, reads while shelving materials
4. Maintains a working knowledge of the content of print and non-print
resources
5. Do the final steps of processing new materials
6. Repair books and magazines
7. Do daily backups of severs (when housed in library)
8. Cover simple lessons as needed
9. Help train volunteers
10. Bulletin boards
11. Monitor students while on computers or in library
12. Trouble-shoot equipment in the library and the classrooms
13. Check out and deliver equipment and other materials to classrooms
14. Manages interlibrary loan process
15. Manage Accelerated Reader program
16. Prepares and submits purchase order forms, warehouse supply forms
17. Process all new magazines
18. Set up and take down presentation equipment
19. Coordinates instructional television support services (taping, setup,
duplication, etc.)
20. Performs other duties as assigned

Thank you again for your answers and assistance.

Sincerely,

Cynthia L. Thompson
