I lost the battle, but so far not the war. Update--my admin decided to do away with library passes, because "they (students)" complained that it was too hard to get a pass, and the admin needed a place to house more students on rainy days. The admin wants to "create" an atmosphere of an inviting library setting. Battle--no passes, no sign in (again it will cause students NOT to want to come to the library), and games and quiet talk. War---Most of the kids that came in today (the first day of this new plan), were the same kids that I always have in here. There was only 3 additional students who came, and were quickly "educated" by the other students on the basic rules of lunch time from the PASS RULES. I love it---ya'know--the Train Up a Child thing might actually work. The noise level of students talking---same as always--table level. The games---the same ones I have had without any problems. All but one came in went directly to the check in spot--I just told them it was free checkin with a smile. Thank you for your wonderful encouragement and words of advice on this topic. It is nice to know that others of you thought I was not off the wall, or "too restrictive".
