My original post:

Our school is hosting an author visit with Jerry Pallotta in December. He
has done mostly non fiction counting and abc books. I was wondering if
anyone else has had a visit with him and if you had suggestions for ways to
get kids ready and excited for the day. For example, whole school
activities, individual activities with grade levels etc. would be helpful.

Thanks!

I will post a HIT if anyone else is interested in just the activities to do
with his books.
----------------------
FYI...his fee is $1800 plus travel expenses. He will do as many programs
during the day as you need and will also autograph books. His website is
www.alphabetman.com
-------------------
He does a lot of different alphabet books, so each class could write their
own about their class or grade level. Or even to go along with what they
are learning about in science, ss, etc...

Our school had Jerry the year before I started here, and I heard many
great things about his day here.
----------------
When we had Jerry for a visit, besides reading his books ahead of time, some

classes made alphabets books. For example, fourth grade did A Day in 4A.
Art teacher had Kinders make bug hats to go with Icky Bug Book.
---------------

One school district in our area had him. They created their own alphabet
books. Each room could take a letter and make a school wide alphabet book
or you could have each room decorate their room's door with one letter.

Just today we were talking about him come to our school. What is his fee?
How many performances will he do in a day. Thanks for your help.
-------------------
Jerry Pallotta visisted the elementary school where I worked and we had the
kids write ABC books about various topics. The students used his books as a
model. Several teachers and myself then judged the books and the winners
got to have lunch with the author. It was a huge success. WE had Jerry
Pallotta and Ralph Masiello together--or we were supposed to have them
together. the day of the author visit we had a snow day and Jerry did show
up and some of us went in and met him. All the classrooms decorated their
doors and he went around and signed the doors. Ralph was able to reschedule
and so he was the one who actually had lunch with the winners. It was very
casual, we ordered from Wendy's and the students were able to ask him
questions about his writing. He also did larger group presentations and
showed us how he illustrated the books. He commented later that having
lunch with the students was one of the best experiences he had. That really
made us proud since we had worked so hard.
