[LM_NET] T ARGET: digital video to CD and to VHS

I have new digital video cameras which are quite easy to use.  The tapes can then 
be played back on a TV beautifully.  But teachers getting their National Boards 
need to send in VHS tapes only.  I have tried to hook up the cables to connect TV 
to Video(Out to In) and then record but it is not that easy. The manual "kinda" 
makes it look that easy. Best Buy, where we bought the camera, is no help at all. 
Can someone explain this to me or tell me what I need to buy to do this.
 
Another teacher wants to transfer the digital video to CD.  Again I used the manual 
to buy a cable ( 4 pin to 6 pin) like shown but our computers do not have the 
firewire connection needed.  We might have a MAC that does but most teachers don't 
like to use the MACs.  I would appreciate help with this process too.
