[LM_NET] Need books on infering

Our counselor asked me if I knew of any books dealing with infering/inference. 
Basically, she is wanting a book that students can read and make inferences to 
other areas in their life. She said it could also be a book that if the ending were 
left off, students could finish the story by drawing upon their experiences and 
background. One of our reading standards deals with inference so she is wanting to 
share this with the students. Does anyone have any suggestions I could give her? I 
am drawing a complete blank! I appreciate any suggestions you could give.
