  Tami:

Well, as I stated, our taxes go to a variety of things, state,
county, and local... roads, maintenance, emergency medical services,
police, fire, etc. etc. If a parent *voluntarily* (key word, that)
choose to send their children to private schools, they have made a
choice to opt out of the public education system. They cannot then,
in all good conscience, turn around and ask for services from
them. Removing their children from their local public school
directly reduces the amount of money that school district receives
from the state (in every state I have direct knowledge of) and
possibly also from counties and cities, if they use a per-pupil
funding formula (so many dollars to each school based on the number
of students enrolled in that school, which is by far the most common
funding formula used by counties and municipalities). Of course,
your state may use a different funding formula.
