HELP!! I am home sick and I have to get ready to do a booktalk (you know that collaboration thing that I have been working on and getting NOWHERE? I have a teacher who is looking to me to help her. YES!!) on Monday (9:15 am) on Maniac Magee and books like it. Audience: BSP (Middle school behavioral class), about 8 boys maybe one girl, reluctant readers. 2 read at a first grade level, 1 at 4th, rest are at grade level. Plusses: Already did a booktalk on Hatchet, and got them reading. So, they will be interested in what I present. I can do the booktalk, no problem. Internet and my notes from reading it a few years ago means I can create a booktalk while home. Problem: Monday 9:15 means no planning time. I will need to email my sub to pull books for me. PLEASE help. I need 10-15 books that are short, compelling, and are "like" Maniac Magee.
