[LM_NET] GEN: Please Beware of potential Scams Related to Katrina Donations

Dear Colleagues of LM_NET,

I would like to caution you, before forwarding any appeals to LM_NET, to
check out any fundraising organizations or addresses, etc. related to
Katrina. This is unfortunately a time when those who are in sympathy and
want to help are quite vulnerable to bogus organizations and individuals.

My advice is to not forward any appeal unless you know the person and the
organization the funds will be going to. From personal knowledge, not
second hand.

Please DO NOT forward something that shows up in your mail just because it
"sounds good"! Check it out as closely as you can to see that the appeal
is legitimate, real and trustworthy-- not to mention efficient. Remember,
all organizations are not as efficient, and some keep a high percentage to
administrative overhead, and a low percentage of the funds actually get
directly to the people in need.
