Good question. This is one area that isn't as standardized as maybe we would like. Some libraries use 92, others use B, others use BIO, and a very few even use BIOGRAPHY. Some libraries may not even have a separate biography section as such, putting the materials in the proper subject area (Sammy Sousa in 796.357 for instance). College and university libraries tend to use the LC system, so the numbers we have so patiently taught all these years don't apply. What to do? Perhaps the key is that we are teaching a skill, not a specific library. Knowing that a biography is in a certain Dewey section still doesn't tell the patron where the physical location is. Rather, we have taught our students HOW to search for a biography, and the details may vary from one library to the next. -- David Lininger, kb0zke, MS/HS librarian Hickory County R-1 Schools Urbana, MO 65767 417-993-4226 tss003 at tnp dot more dot net -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
