A couple months ago a school board member gave me an article from NY Times
Magazine (I believe that was the source) that really slammed the Gossip
Girls and Clique books for their casual sex and superficial values. It
seemed from the article that there was really no redeeming value to either
series. I'm wondering if any of you have read them, and if so, what is your
opinion?

Subject: Mid & Sec: Today show segment on Gossip Girls

On April 18th the Today show will air a segment about the series of
books by Cecily Von Ziegesar called Gossip Girl, which includes an
interview with YALSA president Pam Spencer Holley--so be sure to tune
in! It should air around 8:15 AM, EST.

In conjunction with this interview, YALSA's Booklist Taskforce has
created a short list of recommended reading for teens who've read the
series and are looking for "what's next." The list is accessible from:

You may also recall that the first book in this series was a 2003
selection for YALSA's Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult Readers Top
10 list.
