Well, with the baby off to college in the fall, I guess it's time to make a
change. I have been vacationing in the Charleston area for the last 8 years, and
have really fallen in love with the area. I am seriously thinking of relocating,
and was wondering if anyone could give me a snapshot of the job climate? I do have
my SC certification for Media Specialist and Spanish. I have been perusing the job
postings for Charleston, Dorchester 2 and 4, and Berkely school disticts. I am
currently in an elementary position, but would like to move to high school.

I came into education later in my career, so only have 11 years under my belt,
so to speak. I do have several years experience in medical and academic libraries,
so I'm really not limited to school libraries by any means. My concern, however, is
with salaries. Looking at the salary schedules for the above-mentioned school
districts, I would be taking at least a $1500-$2000 cut in pay. Would an academic
library position have approximately the same salary range? Housing is another item.
I am most familiar with Mount Pleasant, but am also liking what I see in
Summerville and West Ashley.

Any advice, pro or con, would be greatly appreciated. I am a single parent
with young adult children, so anything I do would only concern one person, more or
less. Oh, there was also a new posting just yesterday for an Executive Director of
the Charleston Library Society. Does anyone know anything about that?

Thank you so much! Your advice and counsel are invaluable. Please reply off
list, and I will be sure to acknowledge every one.
