A teacher at my school is working on a project where she is designing literature circles around immigrant themed books. So far, she is using "Esperanza Rising", "Nory Ryan's Song", and "Letters from Rifka". What she is really looking for is an immigrant story with a black main character that is not a slave narrative (not forced immigration). She is targeting middle school or late elementary with this project. If you can suggest any titles, please let me know and I will send them on to her. I will also post a HIT of any responses I get. Thanks! Caroline Herbert, Media Coordinator Oak Grove Elementary School 3810 Wake Forest Rd.
