I will probably be persecuted for this answer --but with a book with such a volatile topic, I would never rely on any book reviews - and I say this as a book reviewer - I would read the book before even considering purchasing, which you have done. I would also make sure the theme has been well researched and is not a pot-boiler issue. I would also be careful to do some character analysis - round character? flat character? Why do you think girls would be fascinated with the subject? Or are you a one gender school? I would also make sure that I, as the librarian, would be comfortable discussing the issue with the students or anyone who has been affected by the issue. I am so thankful for my crisis counseling courses as I have had to deal with students concerned over obesity, abuse, etc. issues.
