Here's my best thinking. The Fiction genres might be broken down

Best,
Toni

The ones I usually try to cover with various grades include:
historical fiction, realistic fiction, science fiction, fantasy,
picture books, folk tales (including fables, fairy tales, and tall
tales), mystery, and informational books for the most part.

Go to this school web site. There are lots of great powerpoints. I
have used the one for genres in my school. I think you will find it
with language arts.

I am in the process of creating a website that arranges kids' books by
genre. It is still very much in progress, but feel free to look at my
subject list to get ideas for your genre unit. http://www.bookwink.com

Hope this helps!

I am sure you have had many reponses by now. Genres would be Fiction:
Historical Fiction, Science Fiction, Modern Fantasy(Harry Potter),
Traditional Fantasy (fairytales) Realistic Fiction (Olive's Ocean)
Poetry, And then Non-Fiction, Biography, Autobiography. I think I got
them all. Hope I helped.
---
I would say that there are two basic catagories fiction and
nonfiction some even consider poetry its own category----or it is a
floating type of literature and can be fiction or nonfiction
It really can be broken down further, but I think this would be a
good start. Hope it helps.

I. Fiction
     A. Realistic fiction
     B. Science Fiction
     C. Fantasy
     D. Historical Fiction
     E. Folklore

II. Nonfiction
     A. Expository
        1. Reference
        2. Science
        3. Newspaper
     Biography
     Autobiography
