Another way to keep this from happening is block a section of numbers for student numbers that does not conflict with your title numbers or vice versa Our student official ID number is 5 digits. I just use 6 digits for my library books. Before we had to use the student ID numbers, I only used 4 digit numbers for my students. To start, I set a range of numbers to be used at each library. I also did the same thing for the books. EX: Elem-- 1000 -3000 JR -- 3001 -5000 HS-- 5001 - 7000 Once the student moves to another campus, I could reuse at number for my campus. I hope this is making sense.
