The rest of the responses about Janet Evanovich being added to a high school
library.

From Linda - I have several of her books. The teachers love them--students
don't
read
them.
From Donnie - I have enjoyed Evanovich's books for years myself. They are adult
general/romance
reading. I wouldn't have a problem including them in a high school
collection,
but not lower grades. In fact, Booklist has frequently reviewed her
work.
At the ALA/Booklist page
<http://www.ala.org/template.cfm?section=booklist&template=/cfapps/booklist/search/searchdone.cfm>
you can see that 9 of her books have been reviewed in the last few
years.
It is my understanding that if Booklist even reviews a book, you can
consider
it recommended by a professional journal in defense of a challenge.
They
don't print reviews of bad books.

From Barbara P. - Janet Evanovich is totally acceptable for high school. I'd even
recommend some of her stuff for middle school.

She has a mystery series with numbers featuring bond enforcer Stephanie Plum that
is absolutely hilarious. If you like mystery, take one home and I guarantee you'll
be hooked. I've recommended them to many people and they always come back and tell
me how much they love them. It's like Sue Grafton with twice the humor and half
the grimness. And you can go on Evanovich's website and vote for which actors you
think would be best for the lead roles if they made a novel into a movie.

Evanovich apparently began as a romance writer and she is republishing a number of
her earlier pieces with some updating and new titles. Some are paired with another
writer. These are not as good as the Plum series, but nothing in them is
unsuitable for high school.
From Betty - I had a few in my high school library but they are a
bit edgy, language and graphic violence and sexual
thoughts - she doesn't go into details on the sex
stuff. I had some of the girls read them and I would
chat with them about the choices Stephanie Plum makes
and what they thought. They always said they would
NEVER do the things she did in her books.
It does depend on the culture of your school. We had
a casino and a few adult venues a block from our
school so it wasn't like they had never seen "action"
before. I would ask some of your low readers teachers
or if you have an Alt Ed teacher if they want them in
their class libraries...
Just my thoughts now I'm at an Elementary school :-)
From Peggy - A group of teachers here read her books but thought they were not
appropiate for our library.

(note: private - Catholic)

From Allan - I would say YES but then I am a fanatic about the series - can never
get
enough. There are a few sexual scenes between her two lovers and they
might
be too racy for some. Why not read the whole series?? you will love
them
