Posted on behalf of a colleague. Please note: This Program is Today at 2PM (EDT). Recipes & Cookbooks: Windows Into Our Savory Past The contents of cookbooks - measurements, ingredients, preparation methods, captions, side notes, and diagrams - conjure up images of campfires, hearthside kettles, electric stoves, and ovens yielding fragrant aromas. They reflect the influences of native peoples, immigration and migration, hard times, and advances in technology. Through shared recipes, we glimpse another side of our history: celebrations and ceremonies; hard times; and the resourcefulness and ingenuity of the human spirit. Join Alison Kelly, Research Specialist, Science Reference Section, and Judy Graves, Digital Projects Coordinator, for a journey through the tasty resources on the Library of Congress Web site. When: Wednesday, December 13, 2 p.m. (E.D.T.), 1:00 p.m. CST To attend, go to http://67.19.231.218/v4/login.asp?r=67955673&p=0 Type your name and click Enter to go into the online room. A small software applet will download to your computer as you enter the room. All that is needed is an Internet connection, sound card, and speakers. A headset with microphone will enable you to speak to the group. Note: Use of Internet Explorer is recommended. Log on 5 minutes early to allow for the web conference software to be downloaded automatically to your computer.
