My neighbor is looking for a book she read many years ago, which is about a boy who lives in the mountains and makes brooms. He makes them from hickory and white oak saplings, and the book describes how he makes them. In the book, if he makes 12 brooms, a traveling salesman will give him a Bowie knife for the brooms. Does this ring a bell with anyone?
