Lynn, I have run a couple of versions of this contest in the past. Here are copies of my handouts, in case you want to paste them into a word processor. I awarded first, second, and third prizes, which were various sizes of heart-shaped boxes of chocolates. Everyone who submitted an entry got a foil-wrapped heart-shaped chocolate. ====================================================================================== NAME_________________________________ LITERARY LOVERS Listed here are the titles of 20 works of literature, and corresponding red hearts posted in the library contain the name of one half of the couple who are in love in the work. On the line at the right of each title, write the name of the MISSING half of the couple. Drop your completed entry in the box at the circulation desk before noon on Thursday. First, second, and third prizes will be drawn from all correct entries at 1:00 on Thursday, February 13. GOOD LUCK! 1. Wuthering Heights, by Emily Bronte. __________________________________ 2. Great Expectations, by Charles Dickens __________________________________ 3. Tom Sawyer, by Mark Twain __________________________________ 4. Cyrano de Bergerac, by Edmund Rostand __________________________________ 5. The Hunchback of Notre Dame, by Victor Hugo __________________________________ 6. Ethan Frome, by Edith Wharton __________________________________ 20. Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen __________________________________ ======================================================================================= ***Note*** The names below were written on red hearts with white chalk and displayed all around the circ desk. If you want to increase library attendance, do not give the list of names at the bottom to the students, or they just grab a handout, look up names on the Internet at home, and hand in the entry. Having names only on posted hearts makes kids work on the contest in the library itself, which may or may not be your goal.*** VALENTINES Win chocolates for your Valentine Sweetie!!!! Identify the literary works that immortalize the lovers named. Put entries in the box before period 8 on Thursday, February 14, and help yourself to a chocolate mini-heart. (Everyone is a winner!) First, second, and third prizes will be awarded to whoever has the most correct answers. Winners will be announced on the PA at 2:00. 1. ______________________________________________________ 2. ______________________________________________________ 3. ______________________________________________________ 4. ______________________________________________________ 5. ______________________________________________________ 6. ______________________________________________________ 7. ______________________________________________________ 8. ______________________________________________________ 9. ______________________________________________________ 10. ______________________________________________________ 11. ______________________________________________________ 12. ______________________________________________________ 13. ______________________________________________________ 14. ______________________________________________________ 15. ______________________________________________________ 16. ______________________________________________________ 17. ______________________________________________________ 18. ______________________________________________________ 19. ______________________________________________________ 20. ______________________________________________________ 21. ______________________________________________________ 22. ______________________________________________________ 23. ______________________________________________________ 24 ______________________________________________________ 25. ______________________________________________________ YOUR NAME:__________________________________________ GRADE:_______ R. After she got the names, she posted a HIT too. Apparently she misplaced the list and requested for a "repost" from the fellow netters. Unfortunately I couldn't locate the list at that time and now I do not remember who it was who wanted this info. While going through my old diskettes, I ran into this list today. I am sorry to post to all the members of the Net, but I hope I will make at least one person very happy.
