HI group, I am currently a reading teacher in my middle school, I teach 7th graders. 3 years ago I learned that our library media specialist was going to retire and so I pondered this for perhaps 5 minutes and decided I wanted to take her position. Not her place, she is awesome and I cannot possibly fill her 35 year shoes. I will certainly try though. My problem is this... when colleagues learn that I am going to be the new librarian.. they act as if I have lost my mind.. now they do not say this directly of course, because they are "professionals". but I get the distinct reaction that they are thinking, "why would you leave the classroom for the library?.. Are you nuts? This is not my imagination. We have a new principal and when I passed my Praxis test for LMS I gave her a copy of my test results and she pulled me aside and asked me why???Again, I felt like she was asking.."Why would you want to leave the classroom and JUST be a librarian.?" I have been really offended by this... what do you all think about this??
