Happy New Year to everyone! Today, I had the pleasure of being in the audience at KLRU Studios for the taping of "Texas Monthly Talks." Host of the Texas Monthly Talks series, and editor of Texas Monthly, Evan Smith, interviewed Louis Sachar, author of Holes. The interview was at KLRU's Studio 6A, where Austin City Limits is filmed. I was joined by many students from private schools, public librarians, and children's book writers. Louis Sachar spoke of his new novel, Small Steps, which will be released on January 10. In Small Steps, the main character is Armpit (from Holes) who is joined later in the book by X-Ray, another character in Holes. They have both been released from Camp Green Lake, and they face problems of becoming reintegrated into society. The program that was taped today will be aired on Thursday, Jan. 26th on KLRU, the PBS affiliate in Austin, TX, from 7-8 p.m. See the website for "Texas Monthly Talks" at: http://www.klru.org/texasmonthlytalks/upcoming.asp Author Louis Sachar Louis Sachar, the award-winning author of the smash children's book turned movie Holes, is back with a new novel. And fans will be happy to learn that his character Armpit is back, too. Meet the grown-up behind Sachar's quirky kids and mixed-up worlds. For any of you who can receive KLRU-TV on your cable, set your recorder to tape the program, because it will be wonderful to share with students. I will inquire to see if it would be possible for others in LM-NET to order a copy of the program.
