The World Book Encyclopedia is not only updated daily (compared to the print encyclopedia which is outdated when it comes to publication and is not updated daily with supplements), it also contains interactive components that allow ALL students (with access to a computer) to use the materials from both ON and or OFF campus (through remote access passwords). As opposed to the print encyclopedia which is often not checked out, the online version allows students to access the materials without waiting for someone to "finish with the volume" being requested---more than one student can use the same material at the same time. The World Book Encyclopedia also offers maps, videos, as well as a British and Spanish version of the encyclopedia, which can be very useful for both students and teachers. World Book also offers pictures (which can be used in multimedia projects), sounds, tables, charts, timelines, videos, animations, and websites that relate to the subject being researched. The World Book online is a GREAT resource to allow student in elementary school (and middle school) the opportunity to begin learning how to use online databases to search for information effectively by learning how to construct search strings to locate information. I believe that the World Book Encyclopedia Online is the BEST value for your dollars because it allows for SO much more than the printed work does / did. In addition, it enhances the classroom projects by allowing the library's resources to be used by everyone without everyone having to physically be IN the library ---and yet, the librarian can still teach the tool in the classroom, the computer lab, or the library! If your central office is against the product, it seems that they just don't understand the benefits of online research tools. In order to prepare our students for future research, this product offers ease of use with familiarity that both teachers and parents will love! Good luck! ~Shonda Shonda Brisco, MLIS Technology Librarian Fort Worth Country Day School Fort Worth, TX 76109 sbrisco@gmail.com http://www.fwcds.org -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
