My principal has asked me to "explore how things are done in other districts". Our school has over 950 students pre-k to grade 5. The library is the 5th special in the prep coverage time for teachers. I currently teach a fixed schedule for grades 2-5 with a student intern planned to cover grades k & 1 for next year. He is exploring the possibility of dropping the fixed class for kindergarten to allow time for the intern to co-teach with me for the older grades. He still wants the kindergarten classes to have access to check out books. The kindergarten is a half day program. Any suggestions as to how your large schools handle this? There is no assistant, either - parent volunteers are going to be recruited to work the circulation desk.
