Our Supervisor of Information Technology is considering increasing the amount of disk space for students and staff and asked us to inquire as to what the standard is for other districts and schools. Currently, everyone is limited to 500 MB, but the IT Supervisor is considering 1 GB for students, and 5 GB for staff. Here are the e-mails I received about disk space allocation: ********************************************************** We have: K-8 15mb 9-12 25mb Staff unlimited **************************************************** I would raise two issues which have come into play here at the end of the year. 1. How many teachers assign Powerpoint presentations? They are real space hogs especially if they include a lot of graphics. 2. The way our system works is we have a shared drive where teachers can set up folders for students to store work so each student working on a group project has access. ANYTHING you create and store in a folder other than your home directory counts against your disk space. We remind them to clean out old projects from shared folders but still have those panic moments. ********************************************************** Yahoo's free email gives 1 GB per user - I'm currently only using 1% of it and I have 80 emails sitting in my inbox, and that's not counting what I have moved to other folders that I want to be able to access from anyway I never have any problems with storage. Back when it was 400 MB, I had problems that messages would be bounced because it was full. *********************************************************** Debra Gniewek, Librarian CRHS South Holland, PA vm: 215-944-1175 fax: 215-944-1144 dgniewek@crsd.org dgniewek@comcast.net ************************************ -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
