Due to a retirement this exciting position has become available. Seeking a collaborative teacher-librarian who has a passion for promoting literature to teenage students. This person would join a supportive secondary (years 8-12) library team of 3 teacher-librarians, 1 av technician and 2 library clerks. In Western Australia the school calendar year comprises of four terms = approx 40 weeks. Holiday breaks: 6 weeks at Christmas and two weeks between each term. This provides a total of 12 weeks holidays to see Australia! The salary for newly trained teacher librarians is $42 110 and this increases up to $61 728 depending on the number of years of experience. Stephen Sampson TEACHER LIBRARIAN - LITERATURE SERVICES INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS The Lake Joondalup Baptist College is a flourishing K-12 coeducational College which opened in 1990. The College has an excellent reputation in the community and demand for enrolment places exceeds availability. In 2006 the College will have an enrolment of 1200 students, 850 being secondary students. All LJBC staff must be committed, practicing Christians. The College is seeking a suitably qualified, dedicated and enthusiastic Secondary Teacher Librarian - Literature Services. The successful applicant will be responsible for promoting literature to students and developing information literacy skills from Year 8 to Year 12. It is expected that this person will work collaboratively with staff. The position being offered is full time. The successful applicant will be expected to provide a functional and inviting library that supports school curriculum and recreational reading; to inform teachers, students, and parents of available library resources and learning tools; to educate students to become effective users of ideas and information and to promote school-wide information literacy across all year levels and learning areas. DUTY STATEMENT Specifically, the Teacher-Librarian: 1. Under the direction of the Head of Library is responsible for the development and organisation of literature promotion programs. 2. Assists the Head of Library in the teaching of research and inquiry process skills in cooperation with teachers. 3. Assists the Head of Library in identifying possible library resources in a variety of mediums. 4. Attends English learning area meetings on a frequent basis and is proactive in seeking out opportunities to enrich student learning through cooperatively planning and teaching with English teachers. 5. Develop unit/assignment pathfinders for the English learning area. 6. Attends to the needs of visiting English classes to the library. 7. Assist in the delivery of the Information Networker program (This includes the Certificate II in Library & Information Services - a national qualification for library clerks). 8. Coordinates the secondary book award scheme. 9. Assists the Head of library by selecting secondary fiction resources. 10. Coordinates the author in residence program. 11. Compiles reports on the development of the literature programs for the College yearbook and annual library report. 12. Assists in the development of library goals and objectives with other library staff. 13. Ensures that the library usage by students is properly supervised at all times. 14. Oversees the organization and maintenance of the literature promotion section of the library main page. 15. Liaises with the Head of Publications for the inclusion of literature promotion activities in newsletters and the College year book. 16. Actively promotes the library and its resources to both staff and students 17. Creates theme brochures for literature promotion. 18. Coordinates the display areas of the literature section of the library. 19. Coordinates the weekly book club 20. Chairs the library literature services meeting and follows up on the completion of issues raised. 21. Controls spending in the library budget area for fiction. 22. Runs a form group. (The is the first class of the day set aside for admin purposes such as taking the attendance roll) 23. Checks and allocates suitable subject headings for fiction titles. 24. Supervises the library department in the absence of the Head of Library. 25. Seeks opportunities for personal growth in teacher-librarianship. 26. Teaches classes allocated by the Deputy Principal Staff & Administration (This refers to relief classes where we cover for absent teachers - occurs only a few times a term) 27. Carries out non-teaching duties as required by the Deputy Principals 28. Attends meetings and professional development activities 29. Attends and undertake duties related to the annual Presentation functions of the College QUALIFICATIONS An appropriate combined qualification in teaching and librarianship/information management.
